Andrew & Paola
As a traveling wedding photographer, I have the incredible opportunity to capture love stories in breathtaking locations around the world. Each wedding is a unique adventure, filled with diverse cultures, stunning landscapes, and unforgettable moments. In this blog post, I’ll share some of my favorite experiences as a destination wedding photographer and tips for couples planning their dream wedding away from home.
Destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular, and it’s easy to see why! They allow couples to tie the knot in stunning locations that hold special meaning for them, whether it’s a picturesque beach, a rustic vineyard, or a charming European town. Plus, they often create an intimate atmosphere, as you can celebrate with just your closest friends and family. I was second shooting at this wedding which was honestly perfect. It gave me the opportunity to just embrace the couple and capture the most candid moments. I was honestly so touched at this wedding. Their genuine love was palpable and I was crying the whole day.
Tip: When choosing a destination, consider locations that reflect your personalities and shared experiences as a couple!
Planning a wedding from afar can be a challenge, but it can also be an adventure! Here are some tips to help you navigate the process:
- Hire Local Vendors: Research and connect with local wedding planners, florists, and caterers who know the area well. They can provide invaluable insights and recommendations.
- Visit the Location: If possible, visit your chosen destination ahead of time. This allows you to scout potential venues, meet vendors, and envision your day.
- Create a Timeline: A clear timeline is essential for planning your day, especially when coordinating with vendors from different locations.
Tip: Communicate openly with your photographer about your vision and timeline to ensure everyone is on the same page.
One of the joys of being a traveling wedding photographer is capturing the essence of each location. I love incorporating local elements into my photography—whether it’s using the landscape, architecture, or even cultural traditions into your wedding photos. At this specific spot we were surrounded by water. There were loads of boats and it was truly the best place to capture the sun set.
Tip: Consider a pre-wedding shoot at a scenic spot nearby to capture the beauty of the location and your love story!
Traveling for weddings also means experiencing and celebrating different cultures. I’ve been fortunate to photograph weddings that incorporate beautiful traditions—from traditional ceremonies to unique local customs. These elements not only make your day special but also create stunning visuals that tell a rich story. The couples family was from Ireland and Venezuela. I instantly connected with the Irish side being from Scotland I picked up on the accent right away. Unfortunately I do have to convince most people that I am truly from there because my accent faded years ago. But overall I enjoyed celebrating with them because it brought back the times I celebrated with my family at my brothers weddings. There is just something about Scotland/Irish people that is just so joyous and fun. The Venezuelan side was amazing as well. They knew how to party and have a great time! My close friends are also from there so it was just amazing seeing the their personality was truly a extension from their culture.
Tip: Embrace these traditions! They add depth and meaning to your wedding, making it even more memorable.
Andrew and Paola did something I have yet to experience at any other wedding. Fireworks! It was truly magical and the location was just perfect for it. The expansive grass and ocean was the perfect back drop to light up the night with them. Then they had a Hora Loca which in Venezuelan tradition is the last hour of partying and they all go crazy until the end of the party. The photographers were all booked until 1:30am which is still the longest day I have every shot to date. The guests were all informed that the party would not stop until 4am.
Tip: Schedule a day after the wedding session to capture more relaxed, candid moments in your wedding attire, exploring the surroundings together.
As a traveling wedding photographer, I am passionate about capturing the unique love stories of couples in beautiful locations around the world. If you’re planning a destination wedding and looking for a photographer who understands your vision and adventure, I’d love to connect!
